Whole-House Rewiring

Old cloth, knob-and-tube, or aluminum wiring replaced with code-current copper.

A rewire is invasive and disruptive by nature, most of the work is inside the walls, but it’s the fix for a house that trips breakers under normal use, has warm outlets, or is still running wiring types insurers flag on a home inspection.

  • Room-by-room or whole-house scoping, so you know exactly what’s being opened up and patched
  • New circuits sized for modern loads, not just a like-for-like swap of old wire gauges
  • Drywall and plaster patching coordinated as part of the job, not left as a surprise line item
  • Permitted and inspected, since a rewire without a permit can’t be verified later at resale
  • Staged by area when a full-house rewire in one pass isn’t practical for how you live in the home

Common questions

How is an electrical quote calculated?

Most quotes come from the scope of the job (which circuits, how much access is needed) plus permit and inspection fees where they apply. Diagnostic and repair calls are usually priced from a service call fee plus time once the cause is found; larger jobs like panel upgrades or rewiring get a firm, written price after a walkthrough.

Do you charge a service call fee?

Yes, most repair and diagnostic visits start with a service call fee that covers the visit and diagnosis; it typically applies toward the repair if you move forward. Ask for the exact number when you book.

Do I need a permit for this work?

Panel upgrades, rewiring, new circuits, and generator installs almost always need a permit; smaller repairs like replacing a switch or outlet usually don’t. We tell you upfront whether your specific job needs one, and we pull it ourselves rather than skip it.

Will the power be off during the work?

Only on the circuits being worked on, whenever that’s possible. A panel upgrade or full rewire does require the main power off for part of the job; we schedule that window with you in advance rather than surprise you with it.

How long does a typical job take?

A repair or diagnostic visit is usually same-day. A panel upgrade typically takes a few hours to a full day depending on inspection scheduling. A whole-house rewire can run from several days to a couple of weeks depending on home size and wall access.

Are you licensed to do electrical work?

Yes. Electrical work requires a state electrical license separate from a general contractor’s license, and we carry ours. See our Licensing & Insurance page for our license number and details, or ask us directly before you book.

What’s the difference between licensed and insured?

Licensed means the state has verified we’re qualified to do electrical work; insured means there’s liability coverage if something goes wrong on the job. Both matter, and we carry both. Ask for documentation of either before you book if you want to see it directly.

Do you pull permits and handle inspections?

Yes, on any job that requires one. We schedule the inspection, meet the inspector, and walk you through what passed. A job that skips the permit can’t be verified later, which becomes a real problem at resale or with insurance.

How long does a panel upgrade take?

The physical swap is usually a few hours to a full day. The power to the house is off only during that window, which we schedule with you in advance. Permit and inspection scheduling around it can add a few days on either side.

How do I know if my house needs rewiring?

Warm outlets or switch plates, frequent breaker trips under normal use, flickering lights unrelated to a bulb, or wiring types like knob-and-tube or aluminum branch wiring are all signals worth a professional look. An inspection will tell you whether it’s isolated repairs or a full rewire.

Will rewiring damage my walls?

Some opening and patching of drywall or plaster is unavoidable to reach existing wiring, we coordinate patching as part of the job rather than leaving it as a surprise. We’ll walk you through exactly what’s being opened before we start.
